The last aroma allows to predict the time in 2

The mood is good child at the Ecole nationale meteorology (ENM), in Toulouse, small structure of 200 students integrated weather France. The NPS hosts promotions of 15 students, selected Mines and bridges or on internal competition, competition and thirty senior technicians operating or instrumentation paid during their studies, as well as 30 soldiers of the Navy and army of air, in training for a year. It is also three students per year of the Hassania School of public works of the Morocco, following the last two years, and weather technicians of francophone Africa. She cohabilite with the University of Toulouse III a master of research followed by twenty-five students.

"Last year, we have recruited the first competition Mines and bridges, welcomes Claire Doubremelle, Director of studies. We have very pleasant students, because they are enthusiasts. "Early July, the students organize a méchoui where they should be forty permanent teachers and the many stakeholders. "The mood is good, confirms Alexandre Mary, President of the Association of students.". However, instrumentation BTS students find that their formation is not quite practical, but it is changing.

The NPS was the first establishment of weather France relocated to Toulouse, in 1982, at the same time as the national Centre for meteorological research. Today, the Toulouse Météopole also hosts the national forecasting Centre and directions of the systems of observation and computer systems weather France, hydrometeorological of flood forecasting, established Service in 2003, the Weather Centre joint and the European Centre for research and training in scientific computing, or a thousand people.

In the large park displayed of the Météopole, the ENM is recognizable by its large radar to measure the strength of the wind and rain, placed over two glazed rooms for the observation of clouds. "Before, the school was housed in the cellars of the Fort of Saint - Cyr, tells Claire Doubremelle." It was found that it was better here! "The ENM provides training in physics of the atmosphere, in mathematics, computer modeling, statistics for climate science, English, management and expression to read the weather. It has a prediction centre where students decrypt radar and satellite images and rotate on computer simulation models of the time from the data. By and large, the meteorologists use radar to a prediction of a few hours, numerical models for those two to three days, the statistics for three to five days and beyond probabilities.

Sought by banks

Each Thursday morning, the students make a weather forecast briefing. This year, they beat their masters in a competition for forecasting temperature and atmospheric pressure at Blagnac Airport for five weeks! "We're much work in the workshop to learn how to meet the different expectations of the clients, explains Michaël Creitz, young Professor of forecasting a graduate of the school in 2005." The power of supercomputers doubles every two years and it always uses new simulation models. The last, aroma, allows to predict the time in 2.5 km side square, and thunderstorms up to 30 hours in advance!

Students then integrate weather France centres or the European Centre for weather forecasting in the medium term to Reading (England). Since September 2007, the NPS hosts also three students who are destined to weather France and are not paid. "Our engineers are wanted for their computer skills, says Claire Dubremelle." Banks contacted us because financial models look a bit like the weather models. We start with three students and we will be more if there are opportunities.

With the rise of environmental concerns, the NPS, the higher national school of Agronomy and the Ecole supérieure de commerce de Toulouse (ESCT) created, in September 2008, a master's degree specializing in the management of sustainable development and climate change, open to bac 5. The first promotion has ten students trained at the ESCT, evidence that the study of climate in the future.
