Desired or not, Windows Vista is undoubtedly the operating system from Microsoft will be done more than expected. Even if the editor strongly revised downwards its initial specifications, a large number of improvements is expected on the workstation.
Five years after the release of XP, security became a priority and Vista will have safer and more convenient management of user accounts. Today, accounts restricted (as opposed to administrator accounts that give full powers to the user) blocks the execution of applications as soon as they access sensitive resources (the registry including base). It managers are only able to intervene. But too sought, they often end up giving full powers to users.

With Vista, in modes secure, running the applications will be more flexible because system will simulate sensitive resources by copying them in memory. The applications will work without threatening the integrity of critical resources that can be modified only in administrator mode. In the latter case, the system will report the user risks.
To preserve privacy data and access, the system will also support devices of encryption (such as the integrated on motherboards chipset) through the "Bit locker" feature. Employees will be able to encrypt some data that can be read on another PC. Businesses wishing to can install their own encryption algorithms.
Vista will integrate for the first time an application specializing in the detection of spyware known as Windows Defender. On the other hand, should always turn to optional software to protect themselves from viruses.
Securing the workstations will be also strengthened with the server version of Vista scheduled output "current 2007". It will incorporate a validation software for workstations (for Network Access Protection NAP) compliance. The latter will verify that the PC who want to connect to the network comply with security policy (antivirus updated firewall enabled, etc.). If the position is not healthy, it will not advance to the information system but will be able to download resources of compliance (for example antivirus signatures).
Vista will be also easier to install. It can be deployed by copying the hard disks of the PC of the "disk images" stored in a new format called WIM (Windows IMage). Manipulable as an archive compressed, a WIM image will bring together all the workstation configuration options. "These generic images will allow escape equipment." "They can also accommodate additional applications," explains Bernard Ourghanlian, Director technical and security of Microsoft France.
New user interface
Once the PC is installed, Vista bear more systematically update "hotfix", i.e. without restarting the machine. "With XP, it works in 30 of cases." "With Vista, it will be in 70 of cases", provides Bernard Ourghanlian.
Safer and easier to administer, Vista will also benefit from a new user interface. In addition to the traditional folders (my documents, my pictures, etc.), can create virtual folders. It will be dynamic views similar to conventional records bringing together around a specific theme files (a project, a client, a presentation, etc.). Vista will also feature a Multicriteria search engine. Very fast (all files on the hard disk will be indexed permanently), it will allow to easily preview the results of queries.
The graphical user interface will be displayed in three dimensions and will have many effects of transparency, which will display even more information to equal screen resolution. For example, the user can preview in real time the State of open applications by passing the mouse on the taskbar.
To take advantage of this new interface, must be however powerful PC (read here). Existing applications will not all compatible with Vista and only new programs to benefit fully. Office 2007, he also launched in January 2007, will in fact be the first major application that will fit completely into Vista (read below). "Major publishers such as Adobe, Symantec, etc., will with us to launch", provides Bernard Ourghanlian.
The new Windows will hold its promises Before considering a costly migration, the companies will think twice (read below). The final version will be available to professionals from November next, two months before the global commercial launch. An appointment is made.
