Employer-rep Equality Seminars
Reps attend the seminars with their key negotiating manager, in order to work together on identifying and addressing equality issues in their workplace. This approach has proved to be extremely successful and another seminar will be run in the Spring.
Objectives
• Demonstrating mainstreaming of equality
• Strengthen employer-union partnerships through identifying barriers and joint solutions
• Developing workplace specific actions for implementing equality duties and responsibilities
“A solution based approach to equality, developing a partnership to deliver.”
Main seminar sessions:
Equality Legislation overview
Case Law Studies: what are the practical implications?
The Duties – How to promote equality
Snakes and Ladders – identifying opportunities and barriers
Action Planning – a partnership approach
Feedback and support systems
To date, three employer-rep equality seminars have been run which were aimed at developing knowledge and strong partnership working for reps with their employers. By reps attending with their key negotiating employer, both sides are able to assess the key equality priorities for their organisation and jointly seek solutions for addressing and improving equality practice in the workplace.
