9th October, All Nations Centre, Cardiff
9.30am to 4pm
On 1st October the new Commission for Equality and Human Rights (CEHR) will start work, replacing the existing equality commissions. This change is important for union officers, reps and members. For example we will want to ensure the CEHR’s strategy and work programme has the interests of people at work at its heart. We will also want to make sure the CEHR continues to support union reps in the work place with advice and information.
The Wales TUC is organising a one-day conference on the subject of the CEHR to look at how the new equality body can work with unions. The conference will also debate planned changes to discrimination law. Significant time will be dedicated to workshops on different equality subjects.
Speakers will include:
Neil Wooding, CEHR Commissioner for Wales
Kay Carberry, TUC Assistant General Secretary
Chris Myant, Director of Wales Commission for Racial Equality
The event will take place on 9th October at the All Nations Centre in Cardiff. The event will run from 9.30am to 4pm and will include lunch. The conference is free to attend. However should you register but do not attend without giving notice there will be a charge of £10 to cover our administration costs.
If you would like to attend please contact Val Kuck for an application form at the Wales TUC at the address above or by email to vkuck@tuc.org.uk by 21st September. A confirmation letter will then be sent to you with further information about the event.
This seminar is aimed at trade union reps who want to take forward equality issues in their workforce. As well as outlining legislation and case law, you will have the opportunity to work with your employer with access to equality experts who will support you in developing a programme of action for your workplace.
